Students will be able to…

• Test their knowledge on any subject and topic with quizzes tailored to their performance
• Get immediate feedback on their learning progres.

• Identify your topic and level – Choose a curriculum-relevant topic and determine your students’ language proficiency level.
• Prepare your quiz questions – Write down quiz questions: This is especially important if you want to make the quiz adaptive to the learner’s performance. Plan which question will follow a correct answer.
• Prepare quiz set up – Consider if you want to allow learners to skip questions or submit another response in case of incorrect answers.
• Prepare additional materials (optional) – If you wish to add pictures or videos make sure you have them available on your computer or memory stick. Check copyright provisions beforehand.

• Create the quiz
• Open Google.
• Select “Forms” in the Google apps menu on the top right corner.
• Log into your Google account or create an account if you don’t already have one.
• Open a new template.
• Click “Settings” in the template.
• Click “Make this a quiz”. Now you can define further options for your quiz.
• Release grade: Here you can choose when the learners will see their grade. Since this is a self-grading quiz, choose “Immediately after each submission”.
• Respondents can see: Here you can select what the learners will see. “Missed questions”, “Correct answers” and “Point value” are active by default.
• “Responses”: If you want to collect your learner’s email address, click the Down arrow and activate “Collect email addresses”.
• When you are done, click on “Questions” to return to your quiz.
• Insert the name of your quiz in “Untitled form”. If you want to you can add a description, instructions etc. right below the title.
• Now insert your first question. “Multiple choice” is activated by default. Below insert options for your answers. Click “Add option” to add as many answers as you wish.
• Click on “Answer key” to select the correct option. If you wish to add feedback, click “Add answer feedback”. Select how many points you want to give for the correct answer by clicking on the “Up” or “Down” arrow on the right next to the question. If you are done, click “Save”.
• If you want to make this a required question, activate “Required” on the right below the question.
• Add more questions by clicking the + icon on the side menu. Apart from “Multiple Choice” questions you can also choose “Check boxes” or “Dropdown” and your quiz will still be self-grading.
• If you want your learners to watch a video before answering the next question click on in the side menu to choose a video.
• Customize your quiz
• To customize your quiz, click on the “Customize Form” icon on the top right of the page. Here you can change font sizes and styles. You can also add an image for your header. You can also choose a different colour and define the shade of your chosen colour for the background.
• When you are done, select “X” to close the menu.
• Preview the quiz
• To preview your quiz select the eyeball icon at the top menu. The preview will open in a new tab. Now you can see the quiz as your learners would. You can also test the quiz to check for errors. Please note that you will not be able to select the “Submit” button at the end of the quiz in preview mode.
• If you wish to make changes, click the arrow next to “Preview mode” on the left of your screen.
• Share the quiz with learners
• Click the purple “Publish” button on the top menu. Now you can choose how you want to share the quiz. By default anyone with the link can do the quiz. If you wish to change this, click “Manage”. If you are done, click the purple “Publish” button. The purple button on the top menu now says “Published”.
• To actually share the quiz with your learners, click the purple “Published” button.
• Select “Copy responder link”. This will give you the actual link that you can send to your learners. Click “Copy”.
• If you want to stop receiving answers, click the purple “Published” button on the top menu.
• Deselect the “Accepting responses” slider and click “Save”.
• Review student answers
• To check responses, select “Responses” near the top of the screen.
• Summary: Here you can get a summary of all the answers.
• Question: Here you can look at the responses for each question separately.
• Individual: Here you can look at each participant’s performance.
• If you want to see your data in a Google sheet, click “Link to sheets” on the right.

• Adaptations for varied language levels, access needs, and cultural backgrounds.
• For mixed-level classes: Divide the quiz questions into sections to create assessments that adapt to the learners performance in the previous sections thus referring the learners to easier or more difficult questions.
• For visual learners: Add pictures or videos or customize quiz layout (font type and size and colour theme).
• For struggling readers: Add feedback for encouragement or for further explanations. You can also create a parallel quiz version that allows learners to skip questions or submit another response on incorrect answers.
• For advanced students: You can create an adaptive assessment thus increasing the difficulty level for each correct answer.
• For specific interests: Quizzes can be created for any subject, language level and target group thus catering for a wide variety of users.
