The article examines the use of AI-driven language technologies, particularly machine translation (MT), among upper secondary school students in Denmark, and discusses perspectives on integrating these technologies into foreign language teaching. A key finding is the widespread use of MT among students, which contrasts with teachers’ often negative attitudes and limited integration of the technology in their teaching. The article argues for the necessity of developing both students’ and teachers’ digital literacy—including MT skills and AI competencies—in order to ensure appropriate and learning-enhancing use of these tools.
